Academic

The Tec 50 course consists of five knowledge development sections, four practical application sessions and four training dives. The primary focus of this course is learning advanced dive equipment options, techniques and procedures using two deco cylinders, and how to plan more complex dives. You also learn more how to handle emergencies, support diving considerations, and sharpen your thinking as a technical diver. Tec 50 Trimix students also learn about dive planning and diving with Trimix.

Gear

Technical diving training teaches, and requires self reliance, being a good team member, and having a consistent, repeatable, well fitting setup. At Dive and Sea Sports, we believe this means technical diving students should own as much of their gear as possible for the course, specifically gear that must be fitted - part of the training involves discussions about purchasing, and adjusting appropriate gear for the types of diving you will be doing so don't feel like you need to be ready gear-wise before enrolling.  Many individuals will be switching configurations (single tank backmount, to doubles configuration in either sidemount or backmount), which can mean new buoyancy compensators, new, or additional regulators, sometimes new cylinders etc. In addition students will have to secure additional cylinders and regulators for their decompression gas mixes. We recognize this can be a financial barrier, so we have put together discounted rates for technical diving packages, along with some technical diving related gear services for students registered in PADI Tec courses with Dive and Sea Sports.

Not ready to purchase your technical diving gear? We can help with top of the line technical diving rental gear at great rates, speak with your instructor and they will guide you as necessary.

List of gear you will need:

  •     Redundant air supply (either sidemount or backmounted doubles) including
    • Cylinders
    • Regulators
    • All of the necessary clips, straps, bands, etc required for proper configuration - your instructor will guide you
    • 2 additional cylinders and regulators, along with rigging for decompression gas
  •     Drysuit, including undergarments
  •     Fins
  •     2 computers or bottom timers - recommend shearwater
